Happy New Year!
The Christmas Season is fast coming to a close in many countries around the world. In our house, New Years Eve is the day we take down our tree. In Western Europe, many countries extend the holiday season another week, until the Epiphany on January 6th, or as the case in Sweden, two more weeks, until Saint Knut’s Day on January 13th. Many countries have grand celebrations of the Eve of The Epiphany, which is known as Twelfth Night. Since the Middle Ages, Twelfth Night has been a time of festivities.
Thanks to all my readers who made my Christmas in Western Europe Series such a smashing success! I may do a little coverage of other upcoming holidays, but quite frankly, none hold the same appeal to me as the Christmas season. I am already eagerly awaiting the 2008 Christmas season, to pick up with Christmas in Denmark, Portugal, Norway, Switzerland and many more!
Have a happy and safe New Year!
